this is the fourth star---Rising Star. I will also email this and we will see how it works best to copy it. Last month we got some really small copies. Like we talked about last month, you can change this design any way that suits you. Like the for corner half square triangles can be solid if you want. Hope to see those who were traveling or had company. And Connie, glad to hear your eye is getting better. See you all August 31--then the next week guild starts again.

Here is our third star. Martha Washington's Star. I really like the little pinwheel in the center but I have had trouble picking fabrics that look good in this block. The last time I made this block I was making it for my brother and sister-in-law. She didn't like the pinwheel but all she saw was the first 3 blocks and I had a vision for the whole quilt that she didn't quite see. Anyway, I left the pinwheels in and she likes it now. But this time, I have made a couple of pinwheels looking for the perfect combination. So, good luck. Looking forward to seeing your pinwheels in August.

What are we here for?
I know--it is way too hot to get philosophical so this will be simple minded and let me ramble a bit. In the past, let's say 100 years ago and even now in non-industrialised communities, guilds and bees existed to divide up work to get things done quickly. Companionship was a lovely side benefit to this sharing of work. The modern guild and/or bee exists to share "work" in the artistic sense. We join bees for community of like interests and to have fun making things we might not otherwise have made. We are exposed to ideas and projects that get our creative minds moving in new directions. As quilters, we are drawn to other quilters and love to see their projects and even though we have our own ideas of beauty or function, we can appreciate each others talents. Rossie said quilters and quilts both bring bits together to make a whole that gives us comfort and joy. I am hoping that our bee offers all that to everyone who comes to our meeting. And really, don't we all just want to quilt and look at quilts?

Star of month for June

Welcome, here is the 1st star. We will gather at The Stitching Barn Tuesday, June 29 at 1pm to assemble the star. Bring at least 4 different fabrics (or plan to shop). If you aren't pre-cut that is fine but think about pre-washing. See you tomorrow.
